Mauritius Weather (Dec 13): Heavy Showers in the South, Calmer Skies by Evening

Rainy conditions continue across Mauritius today, though a gradual improvement is expected later in the day. Overnight, Le Morne to Château Bénarès recorded heavy rainfall, prompting the Mauritius Meteorological Services to extend its heavy rain warning. Rainfall amounts ranged from 20–50 mm, with St Félix alone receiving nearly 50 mm last night. Meanwhile, on La Réunion, an impressive 208 mm fell overnight in the highlands near Sainte-Rose.

This morning, the southern half of the island is seeing continuous rain, though less intense than yesterday. The northern regions will be cloudy with occasional sunshine and brief showers. A high-pressure system over the southern Mascarenes is reinforcing the southeast trade winds, pushing new moist cloud bands over Mauritius.

These incoming clouds carry the potential for 22–36 mm of rainfall in three hours, with totals of 20–60 mm possible over the next 12 hours. Some temporary clearing may occur after 5 p.m., but Sunday afternoon could bring isolated showers again.

The sea is becoming rougher throughout the day, with 2-meter waves this morning along the south coast, increasing to 3 meters later in the afternoon. Offshore activities are strongly discouraged due to hazardous conditions.
High tide: 8:15 and 20:23
Low tide: 14:35

Rodrigues weather

Last night, a weak cloud band passed over Pointe Canon, bringing just 1 mm of rain. Today will be mostly sunny with a 24 km/h southeast breeze. The sea will rise from 1.6 meters in the morning to 2 meters in the afternoon, remaining slightly choppy but safe.
