Tropical Weather Shifts – What to Expect in Mauritius Today (Dec 5)

This Friday begins with a touch of unpredictability, as scattered clouds move west-southwest from the Morne region, gradually pulling away from the island. Over the ocean to the east, a larger cloud mass is forming, but it is not expected to bring heavy rain and will likely dissipate as the day progresses.

Although the atmosphere remains humid and unstable, the main zone of instability is shifting toward Réunion, where thunderstorms and downpours are more likely today. In Mauritius, we can expect warmer and mostly fair weather.

Regional Weather Forecast

The Central Plateau is expected to be cloudy in the morning, but without any severe conditions. If heavy rainfall occurs today, it will most likely affect the southern half of the island—particularly Riambel and St Félix. Temperatures may peak around 35°C in some locations such as Port Louis, Rivière Noire, and St Félix.

Winds will blow from the northeast at around 18 km/h.

Weekend Outlook

The weather over the weekend is expected to be mostly fair. If it rains, it will likely be light and scattered, not widespread. Saturday evening might bring brief showers, but nothing extreme is forecast.

Rodrigues Island

Rodrigues is not expecting any significant rainfall today. Winds are blowing steadily from the east-northeast at 22 km/h. Offshore wave height is around 1.8 meters.

Agalega

Agalega is seeing convective cloud formations to its southwest. Additional cloud bands are expected to pass over during the morning, bringing showers and possible thunderstorms. The weather remains unstable in the area.

Looking ahead, after December 15, conditions in the western Indian Ocean are becoming increasingly favourable for cyclone development. There’s a chance that by the end of the year, a tropical system could approach our region.
