Today’s Weather – Mauritius (Dec 4)

A dramatic start to the day: the weather over Mauritius is unstable and humid, with thunderclouds forming offshore overnight in the northwest. Multiple lightning strikes lit up the early morning sky, especially visible from Pointe aux Sables to Baie du Tombeau. As the morning progressed, active cloud bands shifted over Port Louis, Grand Baie and the central plateau, bringing heavy showers and thunderstorms to many regions.

While rain might ease or stop for a while after sunrise, skies will remain mostly cloudy throughout the island. A gentle breeze from the northeast at around 11 km/h is blowing across the region, supporting further cloud development both over the island and just offshore.

Thanks to this unstable air mass, more localised showers and possibly thunderstorms are expected during the day. Some clouds may deliver up to 40 mm of rain in just three hours, especially in the south and around Le Morne.

Between today and tomorrow, rainfall totals may range between 20 and 60 mm in certain areas, especially across the central highlands and southern coast.
