Unpredictable Weather – Mauritius and Surrounding Islands (Nov 15)

Mauritius begins this Saturday with a bright and pleasant morning in the eastern and northern regions, but today’s weather will not stay that calm for long. A weak frontal system is approaching from the southwest, bringing increasing cloud cover and a gradual shift in conditions as the morning progresses.

Morning Weather Conditions – Mauritius

After the 5:22 AM sunrise, the east and north enjoy clear skies. Unfortunately, this good weather will slowly fade.
Between 7 AM and 8 AM, high-altitude clouds will begin moving in from the southwest, spreading across the island.

From around 9 AM, light rain becomes more likely in the southwestern regions, especially around Chamarel, Grand Bassin and Vacoas.
Rainfall across Mauritius will generally range between 3 mm and 13 mm, though isolated pockets near Vacoas and Grand Bassin could briefly reach 23 mm.
Some cloud clusters near the island have the potential to deliver up to 45 mm, though the chance is low and limited to very specific areas.

Afternoon Weather Outlook – Shifting Winds

This morning, winds remain weak at 10 km/h from the west, but after 8 AM, they turn southerly and strengthen slightly to 12 km/h.
Clouds will also spread northwards, meaning northern regions could see brief showers. Temperatures remain warm, especially along the coast.

Marine – Rough Evening Conditions

The marine weather begins calm today:

  • West & North: 0.8 m
  • East & South: 1.2 m

By evening, however, the arrival of Austral swells from La Réunion will bring 3-meter waves to the southern coastline, making the sea increasingly dangerous.
Low tide: 3:47 AM and 4:24 PM
High tide: 10:18 AM and 10:24 PM
Sunrise: 5:22 AM
Sunset: 6:26 PM

Tomorrow morning, Mauritius is expected to wake up to rainy weather, as a weak frontal trace crosses the region.

Rodrigues Island – Daily Weather

Rodrigues recorded no measurable rain yesterday. Today, the island enjoys a mostly sunny and pleasant day, with a 16 km/h north-northwesterly breeze shifting southerly in the evening.
A small cloud line may arrive later at night, bringing 1–5 mm of rain.
The marine weather remains manageable with 1.3-meter waves, but tomorrow the sea will turn rough again.

Summary:
Mauritius experiences shifting and unpredictable weather today, with morning sunshine giving way to cloud cover and showers, especially in the southwest. The sea becomes dangerous by evening due to strong southern swells. Rodrigues remains sunny with a small chance of light rain later on.
