Today’s Weather – Mauritius and Surrounding Islands (Nov 8)

While parts of the northern hemisphere are seeing their first snowfalls, Mauritius is set to receive its first major tropical rain and thunderstorms of the summer season. Atmospheric conditions today are highly favourable for storm development: humidity remains very high, instability is increasing, and winds are light, blowing from the north-northeast at around 10 km/h.

Locally developed storm clouds will bring heavy rainfall in the southeast, especially around Rose Belle, Plaine Magnien, Mare Tabac, and L’Escalier. As the afternoon progresses, these clouds will move east and northeast, affecting Bel Air, Sébastopol, and Quatre Sœurs, later reaching parts of the northeastern coast.

The morning will remain pleasant and sunny over the western regions, but eastern and central areas will gradually cloud over after 10 AM. The Central Plateau will likely see showers first, before rain spreads across the island during the afternoon. Rainfall amounts could range from 20 mm to as much as 90 mm in certain areas, with similar conditions expected tomorrow and Monday.

An official heavy rainfall advisory is possible later today or tonight. Motorists are strongly advised to drive carefully, reduce speed, and maintain a safe distance — water accumulation and localized flooding are likely on some roads.

At sea, conditions remain calm through Monday, with wave heights around 1 meter in the west and north, and up to 1.5 meters in the east and south.
High tide: 1:57 AM and 1:47 PM
Low tide: 7:42 AM and 8:27 PM
Sunrise: 5:24 AM
Sunset: 6:22 PM
