Today’s Weather – Mauritius and Surrounding Islands (Oct 29)

Today’s weather in Mauritius will be pleasant and mostly sunny. Early this morning, a few small cloud bands moved across parts of the island, bringing light showers for a short while, but these quickly cleared. After sunrise, the clouds will continue to dissipate, and the rest of the day will remain clear and bright — very similar to yesterday.

Winds are blowing from the east-southeast at around 19 km/h. The morning temperature will be around 16°C over Grand Bassin, while daytime highs are expected to reach 31°C in Port Louis and up to 32°C in Rivière Noire. The upcoming weekend looks promising, with fair weather expected across the island. However, between November 11 and 13, there is a potential for heavier rainfall as the summer weather pattern sets in.

Sea conditions are calm and inviting: waves will reach around 1 meter along the western reefs, 1.3 meters in the north, and up to 1.7 meters along the eastern and southern coasts.

Rodrigues Island – Weather Outlook

Rodrigues recorded no significant rainfall yesterday, only a few traces in isolated areas. This morning, mid-level clouds are drifting over the island, bringing a slight chance of light showers before sunrise, with expected amounts between 0.3 and 2 mm. After sunrise, conditions will improve and turn mostly sunny. Winds from the southeast will average around 28 km/h, and offshore waves will reach about 2 meters in height.

Caribbean Region – Cyclone MELISSA

Tropical Cyclone MELISSA has crossed Jamaica, leaving behind severe damage in parts of the island’s northeast, where cyclonic conditions still persist. The system is currently located near latitude 18.7° N and longitude 77.2° W, moving north-northwest at an accelerating speed of 23 km/h.

MELISSA is expected to pass over eastern Cuba today, maintaining its strength and bringing intense rainfall and destructive winds similar to what was experienced in Jamaica. The storm continues to generate extremely high seas and poses a major threat to the northern Caribbean region.

Wishing everyone a bright and sunny Wednesday across Mauritius and its islands!
