Today’s Weather – Mauritius and Surrounding Islands (Oct 23)

The sun will have a hard time breaking through the clouds today as Mauritius remains under the influence of the CHENGE cyclone system. However, occasional heavier showers may still develop during the day, mainly along the eastern and northeastern coasts.

The cyclone’s cloud bands are capable of producing up to 75 mm of rainfall, though around 90% of it is expected to fall offshore over the northeastern and eastern parts of the ocean. The weather will remain humid and cloudy throughout the day, with a chance of showers until about 8 AM. Rain risk will gradually decrease afterward, though skies will stay mostly overcast. Any rainfall that does occur later in the day is likely to be light. Along the northeastern and eastern coasts, scattered clouds will linger near the sea.

Winds are blowing from the east at around 22 km/h on average. The sea remains rough, with offshore waves reaching up to 2.5 meters.
High tide: 1:00 AM and 12:57 PM
Low tide: 6:51 AM and 7:22 PM
Sunrise: 5:33 AM
Sunset: 6:15 PM

Better weather is expected for the weekend as the system weakens and conditions gradually improve across Mauritius.

Rodrigues Island – Weather Outlook

Rodrigues recorded almost no rain yesterday, only trace amounts in isolated areas. This morning, high clouds are moving across the island from the north, but after sunrise, the weather should turn mostly fair. The eastern wind remains strong at around 31 km/h, and offshore waves may reach 2.5 meters.

Agalega Islands – Weather Situation

Rain began overnight on Agalega, though it was initially light. Heavier showers are expected within the next 6–10 hours as the system develops further. Temperatures will drop slightly as the CHENGE cyclone loses intensity and downgrades into a moderate tropical storm. It still carries cyclonic gusts.

At 3 AM, the storm center was located near latitude 10.5° S and longitude 59.4° E, moving westward at 13 km/h. It is generating waves up to 6.5 meters high and is expected to pass very close to Agalega tonight. The system should continue to weaken gradually while drifting slowly west to northwest.

Residents of Agalega are advised to take precautions as heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected over the next 24 hours.

Have a safe and pleasant day ahead across Mauritius and its islands.
