Weather forecast for Mauritius: 25th and 26th May, Sunday and Monday

It’s a weekend of contrasts here in Mauritius. While Sunday promises clear skies and that golden beach glow most of us crave, Monday rolls in with heavy winds and rising swells, turning our southern and eastern coasts into scenes of wild ocean energy.

Let’s break down the weather forecast, region by region, to help you plan your time wisely—whether you’re chasing the sun, avoiding the sea spray, or simply curious how the elements will shape the island.

Sunday, May 25: Sunshine After the Grey

We start the day with a veil of cloud stretching across the island—thicker on the central plateau and around the southwest. It looks gloomy at first light, but don’t let that fool you. These clouds are shallow and mostly dry. No major rain is on the radar.

By midmorning, they peel back. Sunshine breaks through from the north-west coast first, spreading slowly inland. Expect a bright, breezy afternoon with temperatures reaching 26–28°C along the coast and a comfortable 22°C on the plateau.

Winds will freshen from the south, hitting 30–35 km/h with gusts up to 65 km/h later in the day.

But the ocean? That’s where things turn serious.

A powerful anticyclone southeast of Madagascar is tightening its grip. It’s dragging up long-period southern swells—what forecasters call a wave-cyclone—and these will continue to build through the day.

By evening, expect 4–5 metre waves along the south and east coasts. Offshore activities in these areas are strongly discouraged.

Regional Weather – May 25

North Coast (Grand Baie, Pereybere):
A grey start gives way to full sun by 9 a.m. Waters inside the reef stay calm and inviting.

North-West (Mont Choisy, Trou aux Biches):
Excellent visibility and flat seas—perfect for snorkelling once the sky clears.

Port Louis & Surroundings:
Cloudy commute, but skies brighten by midday. The harbour sees fresh SSE winds later in the afternoon.

West Coast (Flic en Flac, Tamarin):
Quickest to clear. Sunny by midmorning, low surf, ideal for sunbathing and shallow swimming.

South-West (Le Morne):
Drizzle possible before sunrise. Kite-surfers take note: 1.8 m waves later today mean conditions for pros only.

South Coast (Bel Ombre):
Cloud lingers longer here. Winds intensify throughout the day. Not recommended for swimming.

Blue Bay, Mahebourg:
Morning haze lifts slowly. Lagoon calm early, but outer reef becomes unsafe by evening.

East Coast (Belle Mare, Trou d’Eau Douce):
Windy and rough. Even strong swimmers should steer clear of open water by afternoon.

Tides – May 25
High: 11:35 & 23:37 Low: 17:25 & 17:29
Sunrise: 06:34 Sunset: 17:38

Monday, May 26: Windy, Cool, and Hazardous at Sea

Monday’s weather brings stronger winds and a noticeably cooler feel—especially on exposed coasts and the plateau. Daytime highs will drop a couple of degrees, and early morning inland temps could dip to 15–16°C.

Rainfall is limited but not absent. A few showers are likely on the south and southeast coasts before noon, but most of the island will stay dry. The breeze, however, is another story.

Gusts could reach 40 km/h in some areas, whipping up dust, leaves, and plenty of sea spray.

What you really need to know?

The sea conditions on the south and east coasts will become dangerous.

Waves could exceed 5 metres—a serious hazard for swimmers, small boats, and shoreline fishing. A marine warning is in effect, and those planning coastal activities should avoid those regions altogether.

Regional Weather – May 26

North Coast:
Breezy but dry. Good sunshine. Outer lagoon slightly choppy.

North-West:
Still the most stable. Warm, bright, and safe for families.

Port Louis:
Partly cloudy skies clearing around noon. Gusty by afternoon near the harbour.

West Coast:
Dry and sunny. Blowing sand possible in open areas. Stay hydrated!

South-West:
Unstable seas and gusty winds. Avoid exposed reefs and deep-water entries.

Bel Ombre:
Blustery with occasional morning showers. Visibility reduced by spray.

Blue Bay, Mahebourg:
Rough waters outside the lagoon. Better to enjoy the shoreline view today.

East Coast:
Worst-hit by swell. Gusts over 35 kt and unsafe surf. Please avoid open-water activity.

Tides – May 26
High: 14:10 Low: 08:05 & 20:05
Sunrise: 06:34 Sunset: 17:38
