Today’s weather in Mauritius will start out mostly cloudy across the island, with a gradual improvement expected as the day progresses. The morning began with widespread cloud cover and mild southern winds. The densest clouds were seen over the central plateau and especially in the southwest near Le Morne, where light rainfall may have started as early as 4:30 a.m.

Although skies will remain grey through most of the morning, no heavy rain is forecast. Light, scattered showers are possible, with expected totals between 2 and 6 mm across the island. In some regions — particularly in the north and west — improvements may begin as early as 9 a.m., while the central plateau could remain overcast until midday.
By the afternoon, weather conditions are expected to improve island-wide, with clearing skies and some sunshine. The only exception may be the southeastern region, especially around Rose Belle, where some lingering rainclouds could persist.
Winds will begin from the south this morning at around 13 km/h but will steadily increase throughout the day, reaching 30 km/h by afternoon, making the air feel cooler, especially along open coastlines.
Sea State and Wave Conditions:
This morning, wave heights range from 1.3 to 1.5 metres along the west and north coastlines due to prevailing winds. However, the southern and eastern coastlines are already experiencing 2.5 metre waves. As the day progresses, a stronger southern swell is expected, worsening sea conditions — especially heading into Sunday, when waves could reach 5 metres on the south and east coasts.
Warning:
If you’re planning any water-based activities today or tomorrow, extreme caution is advised on the east and south coasts. Conditions will deteriorate, and by Sunday, the sea will likely be hazardous to life in those regions.
Regional Overview
North Coast (Grand Baie, Pereybere):
Cloudy in the morning with sun likely returning by late morning. Calm seas and good visibility make this one of the more stable areas today.
Northwest Coast (Mont Choisy, Trou aux Biches):
Partly cloudy with minimal rain expected. Sea conditions remain calm, suitable for brief swimming and light beach activities.
Port Louis and Surroundings:
Overcast skies early, clearing by the afternoon. A fresh breeze develops later in the day, but temperatures remain pleasant.
West Coast (Flic en Flac, Tamarin):
One of the sunniest regions today. Skies begin to clear mid-morning, and the beach will be a great choice for outdoor relaxation.
Southwest Coast (Le Morne):
Cloudy start with a few light showers, clearing by early afternoon. Moderate wave activity — water sports should be approached with caution.
South Coast (Bel Ombre):
Cloudy early, with periods of sunshine expected by midday. Wave height increases in the afternoon; swimming is best in protected areas.
South Coast (Blue Bay, Mahebourg):
Morning brings mostly grey skies, but sunshine is expected in the afternoon. The lagoon is calm early but could become rougher later in the day due to the incoming southern swell.
East Coast (Belle Mare, Trou d’Eau Douce):
Strong southeasterly winds and overcast skies early in the day. Some clearing possible later, but swimming conditions will remain unfavourable due to increasing waves.

Sunday, May 25, 2025
Sunday’s weather will be generally sunnier and drier across Mauritius, but it will be noticeably windier and cooler — particularly on the coasts and highlands. In the early morning, temperatures in Grand Bassin are expected to dip as low as 17°C, bringing a chillier start to the day in elevated areas. Daytime highs will remain between 24–25°C.
The biggest concern tomorrow will be the sea.
A strong southern swell will bring waves of up to 5 metres to the south and east coasts. These conditions may pose serious risks — swimming, sailing, or any open-sea activities are strongly discouraged in those areas.
Winds will remain strong throughout the day. Expect a sustained breeze of 25 km/h in the morning, rising to gusts of up to 40 km/h by late afternoon. Despite plenty of sunshine, the breeze will create a noticeably cooler feel, especially along exposed shorelines.
