A warning of heavy rain has been issued in Mauritius, which will be in effect until 10 pm tonight.
We are in very humid atmospheric conditions and there is a high degree of instability in the air, with a large mass of warm air in our area. Clouds developing not far from us can carry up to 40 mm of rain in less than 3 hours, while clouds a little further north can carry 60 mm in less than 3 hours. The clouds in Saint Brandon are even more active, and can bring up to 75 mm of rain in 3 hours.

Almost the entire island is covered in clouds, with a risk of heavy rain and thunderstorms between 5 am and 6 pm. Some places, such as Riviere du Rempart, Sebastopol, Bel Air, Quartier Militaire, Airport, Rose Belle, Grand Bassin, are more likely to receive more precipitation. 10-30 mm of rain is possible in most places today, but 20-40 mm of precipitation is expected in the eastern and northern parts of the island with a risk of electrical storms and very strong thunderstorms. The wind is blowing from the east at an average of 18 km/h.
The sea is rough, with waves of 2-2.5 meters in the east and south. In the west and north, they break at 1.5 meters. Adventures in the open sea are not recommended!
Practical advice, in case of severe thunderstorms, the public is advised to:
- avoid open areas, hiking and sheltering under trees during thunderstorms.
- avoid areas prone to water accumulation.
- be very careful on the roads due to reduced visibility.
